Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) Program
For B.Sc. Agriculture Students (Final Year, as per ICAR “Student READY” guidelines)
Program Objectives
- Provide hands-on exposure to rural agriculture systems & farm challenges.
- Equip students with practical extension skills (survey, demonstrations, farm training).
- Develop entrepreneurship orientation through agro-industry exposure.
- Enable students to prepare Village Development Plans / Agribusiness Plans.
- Build confidence, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Program Structure – Week-by-Week
Phase 1: Orientation & Preparation (1 week)
Workshop on RAWE objectives, training on survey tools, and initial field exposure
- Workshop on RAWE objectives, ICAR guidelines, and expectations.
- Training on survey tools, PRA, report writing.
- Ice-breaking session on communication with farmers.
- Field exposure: visit to KVK / model farm.
Deliverable: Orientation Report
Phase 2: Village Immersion (2–4 weeks)
Students are placed in partner villages/FPO clusters (groups of 4–6).
- Socio-economic survey (20–25 households/student), PRA exercises.
- Study cropping systems, demonstrations, soil testing.
- Farmer engagement – FFS, awareness on climate-smart farming, nutrition gardens.
- Farm economics, study of FPOs/SHGs, progressive farmer case study.
Deliverables: Village Profile, Crop & Soil Report, Training Report, Farm Case Study
Phase 3: Agro-Industry / NGO Attachment (2 weeks)
Workshop on RAWE objectives, training on survey tools, and initial field exposure
- Rotations in agro-input dealers, food processing units, cooperatives, NGOs.
- Observe supply chains, farmer advisory systems, value chain analysis.
Deliverable: Agro-Industry Exposure Report
Phase 4: Consolidation & Reporting (1–2 weeks)
Workshop on RAWE objectives, training on survey tools, and initial field exposure
- Preparation of Village Development or Agribusiness Plan.
- Weekly diary + final seminar & presentation.
Deliverables: RAWE Work Diary, Village/Business Plan, Final Presentation
